Athletics & After School Programs
Programs & Support
Cornerstone provides a wide range of after-school programs to support students’ academics and develop students’ athletic, arts and technology interests. Students can participate in daily programs or individual enrichment activities.
Lions Den After-School Program
Our daily after-school program for Grades K-8 runs from 3:00-6:00 p.m. for a weekly fee. Students can come every day or once a week.
The program includes snack, recess, literacy development/reading time, homework help, games, and enrichment activities in art, technology, cooking, sports.
Young adult mentors engage and read with students on Mondays and Fridays.
Community Partnerships
Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy
We are blessed to have the Nats Academy in walking distance. Nats Academy staff pick up pre-registered students in Grades 3-8 on Tuesday-Thursday for an afterschool program including homework support, mentoring, and baseball training.
Life Pieces to Masterpieces
Life Pieces to Masterpieces has a daily after school program and transports boys in all grades and uses artistic expression to develop character and leadership, unlock potential, and prepare African American boys and young men to transform their lives and communities.
Washington Tennis and Educational Foundation (WTEF)
WTEF Tennis is dedicated to building life champions through tennis and academic excellence. They provide a free after school program with tennis instruction and dinner to Cornerstone students. Cornerstone students also participate in tennis lessons during PE and elective classes.
Cornerstone Athletics
Cornerstone provides an expanding offering of sports and participates in two local leagues, the Greater Metropolitan Christian Athletic Conference (GMCAC) and the Independent Small School Athletic Conference (ISSAC).
Girls’ Volleyball
Female students in Grades 7-12 can try out for our volleyball team in the fall and participate in training through the spring and summer.
Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer
Students in Grades 3-6 participate in a Fall Soccer program. The goal is to continue expanding soccer into Grades 7-8
Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball
Male and female students in Grades 6-12 can try out for our basketball team in the winter and participate in training in the summer.
Cheer
Female students in Grades 1-5 participate in a Winter Cheerleading program and present at Cornerstone Basketball games.
Coming Soon - Tennis, Track and Flag Football
We are working on a tennis program, a boys’ flag football team for grades 6-8, and a track program for students in grades 2-12.
