Volunteer Opportunities

Judges needed for our Science Fair

Science Fair judging will take place Friday, March 5th.  We need 20 volunteers (10 for judging in the morning and 10 for judging in the afternoon).  If you are interested in participating, please contact us at 202 575 0027.

Assistance is needed in our Aftercare program

High school, college students or adults are welcome.   This is a great opportunity for those needing credits or community service hours.  Volunteers will assist our Aftercare staff with working with our students (ages 3-12), and help to run planned activities such as reading and playing games with students and overseeing homework completion.

Assistance is needed weekdays during the hours of 3:00pm-6:00pm.  Dates and times are flexible.  For more for more information, contact Audrey Hyman at 202 575 0027.

Assistance is needed with our Pre-K program

College students or adults welcome.  This is a great opportunity  for those needing credits or community service hours.  Volunteers will assist our teaching staff with our 3 & 4 year old classes during the week.  Days and times are flexible.  For more information, contact Ketra Fitzgerald at at 202 575 0027.

Cornerstone Mentors
Cornerstone Mentors agree to attend the four Partner events each year and substitute for Silent Partners who cannot be there or step in to encourage students who do not have Partners. Mentors also enjoy other opportunities to give of their time by tutoring students, participating in field trips and extracurricular activities and assisting the school in organizing and running other special events.  This is a good opportunity for families to get involved with encouraging and communicating with one of our students.  Many of our mentors have their children correspond w/their Cornerstone student, attend school functions, etc.

Administrative Volunteer Opportunities
Other volunteer opportunities include assisting in the Library and the Computer Lab.  We have the wiring in place for a network but need help with setting it up in our building.

There is also a need for assistance in our administrative offices for one time projects as well as with regular ongoing duties.

Event Assistance
We have 2 large events each year, our Christmas Auction and our Golf Tournament in the Spring.  Volunteers are needed for all aspects of event planning and day-of execution.
Done-In-A-Day
We have many small ‘done-in-a-day’ projects, such as painting, exterior maintenance, and general clean-up that are great opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved with helping out here at Cornerstone.
